Vinyl upholstery has become quite the popular item in households, cars, and boats in today’s world. Vinyl upholstery offers a cheap alternative to leather; the looks of the two are almost exactly the same. To put it on your furniture or car seat, you only have to lay it out on the piece of furniture and snap it together with some type of ornamentation. That is why a lot of people would prefer to have it over leather. However, there are a couple of differences between the two. The first difference between vinyl upholstery and traditional leather is that vinyl upholstery is much easier to clean. This is a huge plus for many users because it is so convenient to own something that is easy to clean. Another difference between the two types is that users generally notice that the fabric feels a little bit rougher than traditional leather does. This is a pretty big disadvantage according to most shoppers because they do not get to have the “feel” of traditional leather. This also is not that big of a deal because the difference is very minimal, and many people would not notice it if they did not know if the product was vinyl upholstery rather than the traditional leather.
The vinyl also usually has a cloth or fabric backing to it whenever it is removed, which is also different than the backing on leather. The type of backing on vinyl upholstery protects the vinyl from cracking or any other type of damage that may occur to it. One other difference between the two products is that vinyl is much brighter and shinier than traditional leather. This is also not a big difference according to most consumers since it is the comfort that matters anyways. One of the biggest disadvantages of buying vinyl upholstery rather than real leather is that vinyl is a man made product, so it will not last as long as leather will. Cracks will begin to form due to the surface breaking down and degrading over time from damage. Vinyl works great over a short period of time though, but it is just not meant to be used for a prolonged period of time. You may have to replace it every few years depending on how much it is used and how well it is maintained.

The better you take care of it, the longer it will last. One of the bigger advantages of buying vinyl upholstery over real leather according to shoppers is that vinyl can be much cheaper than leather. This is a huge advantage short term with money, but a lot of people feel that they are better off spending some more money on traditional leather because it will last a lot longer than the vinyl will. Most people that buy the vinyl buy it because it has the benefit of coming in several different colors, and if they do not have as much money coming in, it can be a good, cheap alternative. People that buy vinyl should beware of a few things. One thing that they should be cautious about is how well they take care of it. Since the vinyl is not as durable as real leather is, it can rip and degrade much easier. People should make sure to clean it often, and try to keep pets with claws off of it. Pets have the tendency to scratch and claw and furniture, which will cause it to rip over time.
Another thing that customers should be cautious about when they have vinyl upholstery, especially in their cars, is that whenever it is hot out the sun will cause damage to their car. This applies even to people who have leather as well. It is scientifically proven that the heat coming from the sun will cause damage to the vinyl or leather. This is why people with cars or boats should try to avoid leaving their car out in the heat for a prolonged period of time. If you have a garage, you should store your vehicle or boat in there to avoid any type of damage. However, in the garage it can still receive some damage because it will most likely be hot in there as well. There is really no way around it in the summer time, but keeping your car or boat in the garage will definitely be much better than leaving it directly in the sun’s rays. People also begin to notice that whenever they put vinyl upholstery on their furniture indoors, they will stick to it a little bit in the summertime. This is because it is pretty hot which causes the upholstery to stick to objects. Whether you choose vinyl upholstery or real leather, you are sure to get a great product.

I know that vinyl is much more affordable than leather, but it still has a long way to go to match the feel of leather. Great information! Thanks for the nice hub.
